Irish Pub Tour — Day 3 — Nevada and Washington
Are you tracking Tullamore Tim’s travels traversing the continent? It takes your breath away. The man hardly has the time to rush from the airport, walk into an authentic Irish Pub, tap the bar, take a quick sip and run for the next flight!
No even time to grab the traditional “been there, done that, got the t-shirt” t-shirt. Yikes!
To bring you up to speed, Tim Herlihy, U.S. ambassador for Tullamore Irish Whiskey (yes, genuine Gaelic tonic), is on a warp drive quest to visit authentic Irish pubs (and there is a very distinct reality and presentation to know and fully understand what authentic means) in America.
The catch is that he is proposing to raise a glass in an authentic Irish Pub in every state — all 50 states…and to do it in 30 days. The catch is he must finish in time and be in place to participate in a very famous St. Paddy’s Day parade in a very large and traditional Irish community on March 17th.
Race along with Tim right here each day to see where he will turn up next. We are going to post a map to let you view the convoluted trail he will be blazing across the states.
In the meantime, if you want to actually meet Tim at an Irish Pub near you, keep returning here. We will offer advance notice of every state and place and date and (hopefully) time that Tim will be in your neck of the woods.
That being said, here is the literary for Today, Thursday, February 18, 2016:
Keep in mind that Tim is flying directly from Hawaii to Las Vegas; a long flight.
Yes, I know, the perception is that everything in Las Vegas is unreal, skewed, and merely a facade facing toward a gambling experience. It looks grand on the outside, but like a bowl of plastic fruit. a perfect outside masks a hollow inside.
Tim will be visiting Ri Ra, an authentic Irish Pub on the Las Vegas Strip next to Mandalay Bay.
There is an old Irish saying that “no bar is left behind.” This is true with Ri Ra. It is an ENTIRE Irish Tavern that was carefully restored to pristine condition and then lovingly dismantled and transported to the Nevadan desert.
Custom-made with salvaged material straight from Ireland, Rí Rá Las Vegas captures the warm pub style of 19th century Ireland. Each rescued artifact, including master centerpieces such as the 19th century bar, was carefully restored in County Wicklow, a scenic area just south of Dublin, and then shipped to Las Vegas.
Walking through the front door of Rí Rá, you will be transported back in time as you enter the front shop bar. The traditional shop bar played an important role in rural Ireland acting as the pub, local store, post-office and community gathering point. The shop bar at Rí Rá is a fine authentic example, which started life in the 1880’s as Foley’s in Timoleague, West Cork. You can experience all the richness and character of the Victorian Age here.
And you can experience it with Tim, who will be representing Tullamore the Victorian Age Irish Whiskey, a company founded in 1829.
Hey, mention you heard about him from American Bars and he will probably offer you a bit of his company’s elixir. We don’t know when he will be there, so call ahead.
RI Ra Las Vegas
Located in the Shoppes at Mandalay Bay Place
Right along the Strip at 3930 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

But wait, there’s more!
Tim will make the mad dash from Las Vegas in time to catch a flight to Seattle. Yes, THAT Seattle, in Washington state. There you will find Tim dashing in prior to closing at Kells down at the Historic Pike Place waterfront.
Kell’s is located at 1916 Post Alley, Pike Place Market, Seattle,
Call them to find out when a very tired Tim will be imbibing there — 206 728-1916
Kell’s is more event oriented than historic. Granted, the bar sits in the most historic area of Seattle, however the focus is on celebrating great events. They boast the largest St. Patrick’s Day festival in the entire North West. Come join Tim, hoist a glass, wish him well on his trek.
Thus ends Thursday — Day 3.
