Speeding off to the airport, Tim doubles back to the West Coast and arrives in Portland, Oregon later in the day. His pub stop there will be a downtown establishment known as Paddy’s.

    65 SW Yamhill St.

    Portland, OR 92704

Paddy’s is the oldest Irish Pub in downtown Portland located in the historic Powers Building (est. 1878), Being in the downtown core, Paddy’s has always been a popular meeting point for the business professionals and Portland locals alike. With a dizzying inventory of over 600 spirits on an antique bar that rivals any Victorian Free House, Paddy’s offers a variety of familiar and adventurous choices: your favorite libation, luxurious cocktails, stout beers, and all manner of whiskey or wine.

Paddy’s Old Fashioned Bar & Grill was opened by Richard Stuman in 1979 and considered the first of the “Fern Bars” meaning it was a nice bar where men and women could go out for socializing. At that time, most Portland bars were tough and rough. Paddy’s helped pave the way for more upscale establishments in the city. Paddy’s was considered “The” hottest spot in the city. In fact, original customers from 1979 still grace our bar and tell us stories of the infamous days of Paddy’s past.

Their annual St. Patrick’s Day festival is a “must do” in the city, shutting down the streets and celebrate everything Irish with food, drink, and entertainment. On March 17th, 2011, Paddy’s set the Guinness Book of World Records for World’s Largest Irish Coffee. The final cocktail measured in at 159 gallons. (Roughly 100 gallons of coffee, 20 gallons on Jameson Irish Whiskey, 20 gallons of simple syrup and another 20 gallons of heavy whipped cream). Our annual event partner is The Children’s Cancer Association and we’ve been fortunate to raise tens of thousands of dollars to help their cause through St Patrick’s Day.

But, for now, come on Friday and meet Tim before he heads off to the high country…Alaska!

Now, if your are in rugged Alaska, Tim will get there sometime late on Friday. He is scheduled to visit two Irish bars while in the city.

McGinley’s pub is a touch of old beer bar mixed with lots of windows — Alaskans crave light since they spend half a year in darkness much of the time. It’s a good place to meet Tim, boost a glass and encourage him in his quest. Be sure to call and find out when Tim will arrive.

The second pub Tim will rush to visit is the Pioneer Pub. It isn’t much on decor, but the clientele makes up for it. Actually, former barstool boys are now the operators and owners. The building was constructed in 1908, but the style does not reflect anything of an older period. Suggestion: concentrate on your drinking.

If you are exhausted just thinking about this day and all the travel, come here tomorrow and take a gander at the weekend coming up. Back to the lower 48 and charging along with runs to Boise, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque, Phoenix.

    Whew!
