March 2nd, 3rd, & 4th
Yes, that is the name of a popular flower; one which might be found on the grave of an Irish. Like the Irish, it is a profuse bloomer lives up to its name by opening deep violet, turning to light violet, then white, all in three days! It is the star of a dappled shade shrub border, near walkways, or mass as a privacy screen. All those Emerald Isle pathways that one could imagine.
Now, why the reference to passing?
Catching up is tough, especially with a fellow on the move like Tim Herlihy, the U.S. Ambassador for Ireland based Tullamore Distilleries. If you have not kept up with the missives here, Tim has been attempting the perfect “Irish suicide” — visiting authentic Irish pubs in all 50 States and accomplishing it all in just 30 Days…the ultimate goal is to march in, and possibly expire happily in…New York City’s traditional St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17th. Tim is certainly well on his way to accomplishing all this.
Let’s see where his itinerary has taken him — Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.
Yesterday, Tim was in South Carolina. Seanachai actually charges membership. It is not an Irish pub, but an Irish pub club. Seanachai is an artisan whiskey and cocktail bar set in the traditions of an Irish pub. A loyal following of cocktail enthusiasts quickly developed at the Seanachai, where inspiration for “Irish Gerry” handcrafted concoctions is drawn from the local farmers and beekeepers who frequent it. Tim will get a good meal here in Charleston, South Carolina.
Stop on by!

That was yesterday. Today, Thursday, March 3rd, Tim treks to Kevin Barry’s Pub on the Savannah River.
Kevin Barry's Pub may have opened it's doors just before midnight on Halloween, October 31st 1980, but long before 117 W River Street was known to the world as Kevin Barry's Pub; it had its own history.
For over one hundred and fifty years; 117 W River St, formally known as Wharf Lot 4, has withstood time, weather, fire, the War of Northern Aggression, and seen its share of different owners. It's evolved from an empty lot, a dry goods store, a warehouse, a steel company in the early 1900's, Rollinson Electrical Contractors, and what is now known throughout the world as Kevin Barry's Pub. Amazingly, this is the only stop for Tim today.
You will note the prominence of American Flags on the exterior of the building and the American Flags on the interior of the building and the shrines to American military heroes. This is an Irish Pub, but it is clearly patriotic American to the absolute core.

Friday finds Tim way up in Michigan! Only One Stop!
Nancy Whiskey has been a Detroit mainstay since 1902.
Surviving through the Prohibition (once had its own speak easy!) and a devastating fire in 2009, the building still stands tall, and continues to hold one of the oldest liquor licenses in Detroit (thats 110 years!).
They certainly know their clientele. For directions, they explain they are only two minutes away from the Motor City Casino. That is zoned in. Always open for Lions, Tigers, or Wings games, Nancy Whiskey is a great place to catch all of the Motown events…if you are a Detroit fan, that is. Tim will want to know what the Detroit soccer team or rugby squad is named…
