Normally, American Bars begins Monday with a tale of an old, grand historic bar that is having a last call prior to vanishing into the American landscape forever. However, due to the timeliness of another event, we thought it prudent to mention a more positive item to launch the week.

Well, the news apparently doesn’t travel all that fast in the beer community.

Suddenly, it’s American Craft Beer Week (ACBW), as declared by the Craft Brewers Association. Actually, this is the 11th year of celebrating this unique tribute; a nationwide celebration of U.S. small and independent craft brewers. It consists of a weeklong tribute enabling craft brewers to share their diversity, creativity and passion for the beverage they love with the greater craft beer community. From May 16 – 22, all 50 states will be holding events including exclusive brewery tours, special craft beer releases, food and beer pairings, tap takeovers and more to celebrate apparently obvious, ever-advancing beer culture in the United States. It is even a registered event and allegedly there are numerous events in all 50 states, so check it out in your town.

The Brewers Association is one of those fiercely proud groups that promote themselves as : a brewing organization of brewers, for brewers and by brewers. That says it all.

The club boasts more than 3,000 US business brewery members and 46,000 members of the American Homebrewers Association who are the garage and backyard boys. On the periphery are the allied trade, beer distributors, individuals, other associate members and the Brewers Association staff to make up the whole of the Brewers Association.

Back in 2006, craft beer fans decided to self promote and have a designated week to support their own local brewery, and beer businesses, hoping to be noticed by the larger public media and other entities. They view this opportunity to connect with potential customers and other beer lovers. A nation full of beer beginners, beer enthusiasts and beer geeks toast the week each year.

Social media swells the ranks, too. In 2015, more than 60,000 beer lovers across all 50 states took part in the ACBW Facebook Community.

So, go out and celebrate all week!
