OK, summer is here and it is time to go casual. There are some great experiments to try with summer drinks!
There are a rainbow of things to pitch into your favorite imbibe. From mason jars filled with sliced fruits, and plenty of how-tos for do-it-yourself sangrias, margaritas and booze-infused slushies, you can actually concoct a number of under 100-calorie options and three-minute recipes. You may find just the drink to match to your personality.
In the summer, it seems like there's a whole other list of things you can do with cocktails. There’s always a new trend, or something people want to try or something you saw on Instagram or Pinterest. At American Bars, we have recently read about recent trends including anything ginger-infused, blueberry Moscow mules and unique takes on sangrias…well, actually mixing anything with fresh fruit.
When it's warmer outside, the drinks tend to have flashes of pink, green and blue with lots of vitamin C in them. They are conversation starters. Once you get creative and make that girly drink or that really colorful drink, it becomes something people point at, and it catches their eye. They ask about it and the party begins.
With Summer, people kind of come out of their caves and they're ready to be adventurous, so you want to beat them to the punch with something unique and uniquely you.
Some bars hold competitions to determine the best summer drinks; a weekly party and ‘taste around.’ Some bars go through at least 30 drinks before they settle up the final list. Those specialty drinks are solid and really impress people in and draw people back.
American Bars heard about a recently unveiled summer cocktail list isn't your typical blend of gin and tonics. Take. for example, The Lifeguard ($10), a drink with Patron tequila, fresh lime juice, strawberry mango puree and pineapple juice or the Drunken Monkey ($10), which is a version of an alcoholic ice cream sundae, coconut of course.
The names are summery, too — from “Hot in Here” to “Skinny Jeans” to “Pretty in Pink’ to the more in-your-face choice: “Summer Sunset,” which holds a blend of Absolut Citron, champagne, lemonade and cranberry juice.
The standard drinks will always be there, but, having a group experiment and design something special… that is the next generation of cocktails. People have been drinking Manhattans and Old Fashioneds for a century now — and now they want something else."
So, at your local watering hole, tell them about this American Bars suggestion and see about setting up a taste test teaser round. And a hot day in late June or July or August those something-else, fruity, tropical, sweet, doesn't-taste-like-alcohol drinks may become the iconic delight in your favorite bar.
