There are laws on the books that prevent discrimination based on race, religion, sexual orientation, and gender.
But what about looks?
Yes, the standard for looking good in a bar still remains that, after downing a few hard drinks, everyone looks good. However, some have rather sobering standards.
A highly exclusive dating website “Beautiful People” is opening an exclusive new club in Hollywood where every guest is vetted to ensure they are attractive enough to enter. Seriously.
Those deemed to not reach the California club’s very high standard – which is decided by a panel of judges – will be ejected from the bar.
How good looking do you have to be? Check out BeautifulPeople.com to see if you are gorgeous enough to enter the “good looking people only bar”.
Managing director of BeautifulPeople.com Greg Hodge says that they are just following the site’s users’ wishes, as they are apparently tired of going on nights out surrounded by people they don’t consider pretty enough.
As intensely biased as it sounds, it is true:
“We listen to our members and they are fed up of going out to expensive bars, hoping to meet similarly beautiful people, only to spend the night wishing that the lighting was lower.
“We are very excited about the opening of our flagship bar, BeautifulPeople.com. Those hoping to enter the bar will have to pass muster with a committee, featuring director Genevieve Hodge, who will decide if they’re pretty enough BeautifulPeople.com Model, Joslyn Stabile, winner of the site’s 2015 swimwear contest is also on the panel BeautifulPeople.com Celeb fitness trainer Derek Opperman is on the membership committee, with expert trainers who can improve the physical fitness levels of members and their guests
We will take the same ethos into this project as we did when we launched the dating site, we are simply taking the BeautifulPeople concept into the real world.”
As Editor in Chief of MAMMP, I take this as a challenge for our champion, Brian. Can we boost him enough to achieve the “Hot People” standard? I believe it is entirely possible, because the philosophy here is that beautiful people can be created via hard work. It does not come naturally. Even those currently hot people are only that way because they work very hard to establish and maintain standards that most of us ordinary people do not strive to master.
All member of the “hot people” only site will be given, priority entrance to the bar and table access.
Non-members and guests will be let in for drinks only if they pass muster with the on-site “Beauty Police” – a team of door pickers who allegedly have inside “knowledge” of the standards the site’s members expect.
But being beautiful is apparently not the only way you can gain access to the bar.
A membership committee of celebrity trainers, models, actors and directors based in LA will introduce clients and friends.
The bar serves alcoholic beverages as well as healthy drinks to keep you looking hot all night long. The well-stocked bar will, in addition to a full range of spirits, wines and champagnes, serve “beauty cocktails” containing ingredients such as aloe vera, coconut water, bee pollen and avocado and that are said to keep you looking your best, as well as healthy green juices blended on the spot.
The cocktail menu was designed by mixologist Leonardo da Silva, who is also the club’s operations director and part owner.
Da Silva says: “Any decent club operator will tell you that door policy is key. Our door policy is no different to that of the VIP rooms of leading night spots in style capitals all around the world.
“BeautifulPeople.com has been called the VIP room of the online dating industry and the club will closely mirror this virtual world”.
Anyone wanting to dine will be able to enjoy the bar’s raw food menu, or order lean meats from the grill.
All staff will also be recruited through the site to ensure they don’t lower the average inside the bar.
So, you ask yourself, what chance do I have to join? Let’s review the stats, shall we:
To join the dating site, applicants have to pass a rating process where existing members vote on applicants over a 48-hour period based on photographs and a brief profile.
Since the site’s launch in 2002, over 11 million people have been rejected. The site currently boasts a global total of around 800,000 members.
Brit lads are among the least successful applicants to the site, with less than 9% gaining access to the exclusive community with women faring slightly better on 14%.
US applicants have significantly more success with 24% of men and 36% of women making it into the “hot” only online club.
But leading the world are the Norwegians with an average combined success rate of 49%.
Now, our MAMMP Champ, Brian Smith, is a naturalized American of German stock. Let’s see how he does…
