Look at the pretty, pastoral photo of the lovely little village for a moment. It is so serene and quiet. Yet, that peaceful nature will probably be upended soon and possibly forever by the building of a new fountain at town square. More about that in a moment…
Look long and hard, because this place is not easy to get to or visit in general. It is in central Europe, Slovakia to be exact. Yes, you have to pull up a global map to find the country, much less the town. The berg is named Zalec. It has existed his since the 12th Century and its sole industry for nearly a thousand years is hops…beer hops.
Now, to improve their economy and elevate the importance of their product, they are building a fountain…and filling it with BEER!
Yes, as the media frames it — this is Homer Simpson’s dream!
So, there are no direct flight to Zalec or even indirect flights to anywhere near Zalec. It is a trek to be sure. Start saving now, but just remember, you won’t have to pay for the beer once you arrive.
Thus far, there have been no copy cats stateside to visit.
