Once named, 'Bucket of Blood', the Bloody Mary has long been our go-to for either curing hangovers, or to kick start Sunday Funday. This blissful and unforgettable tasting beverage has quite the history, and just celebrated its 80th birthday last year (2014). Back in 1920 a bartender named, Ferdinand "Pete" Petiot, started experimenting with a new spirit called, Vodka, that had just made its way from Russia to the United States. At the same time, Ferdinand, was introduced to tomato juice. Over time, and running out of ideas of what to mix this 'vodka' with, Ferdinand, finally mixed tomato juice with vodka and spices, and, well, hence we now have the Bloody Mary.
Our friends over at Eater have given us a recipe (and a video) that is guaranteed to result in the same unforgettable, blissfully flavored Bloody Mary that you would pay $15 for if at your favorite brunch place. Just follow the recipe.
We're going to practice our Bloody Mary making skills over here, and you do the same and let us know how you did. Will your Bloody Mary come out as well as the $15 one you crave every Sunday?
