If you receive our newsletter (and if you don't, shame on you), you will notice that this week's theme is Scotch.
In light of that, I thought I would layout a few facts about Scotch.
1. Scotch whisky, commonly known as Scotch, is malt whisky or grain whisky made in Scotland.
2. The term “whisky” evolved from the Gaelic words uisage beatha, which actually derived from the Latin Acqua Vitae or “water of life.” Some think that the name references the fact that these spirits were first consumed by monks for medical purposes.
3. Scotch whisky is always spelt without an ‘e’
4. Scotch is required to be bottled at a minimum of 40% ABV. And, some cask strength can be as much as 61% in strength.
5. All Scotch whisky was originally made from malted barley.
