The Big Beer Merger
Published By admin on 9 years ago

If you haven't heard, AB InBev (the makers of Budweiser) is acquiring SABMiller for a mere $107 billion U.S. dollars.

This merger will now account for almost 30% of the world's beer market - creating a bit of fear and uncertainty for medium to small brewing companies. Some experts say the medium to small breweries should start collaborating and in a sense, create their own alliance. However, there are other sources saying the smaller breweries of the country should actually be excited as 'economies of scale discourage behemoths from doing niche and special run beers, "leaving those spaces open to the craft brewers", as stated in the SF Gate article. Which, if you really think about it, makes sense.

Let us know what you think about this merger - do agree with it and don't feel our smaller craft breweries have anything to worry about, or do you think they need to get together?
